Korean Language Program
From a one-course offering in 1988, the Korean language program has developed into a full-fledged language program. It now offers six course a semester: a three-year sequence of courses for true beginners and a two-year sequence for heritage students. Advanced students with very specific needs have the option of taking an Independent Study. The program is staffed by one full time Senior Lecturer (Hairhin Diffloth), and a half-time Teaching Associate and a Teaching Assistant. It enrolls a mixture of students with multiple objectives for learning the language. Enrollment varies from 50-70 students a semester. The majority of students are Korean Americans from various disciplines, but the number of non-heritage students, including graduate students, who are interested in doing research in Korea has been steadily growing in recent years.
